  15.          Playing Wordtris

  17.          The Wordtris Options Screen contains all the options you need
  18.          to play Wordtris.  Choose options from the Options Screen by
  19.          moving the onscreen arrow with the Tab, arrow keys, or mouse.
  20.          Shift-Tab moves the arrow backward through the buttons.  When
  21.          the arrow is positioned over the option you want, press Enter
  22.          or click the mouse button to select that option.

  24.          The area on the right side of the Options Screen shows you
  25.          setup selections.

  27.          Select a Game Mode

  29.          Press Enter or click the mouse on the Game Mode option.  We
  30.          suggest that you start with a single player game to get a
  31.          feel for Wordtris before you try the other game modes.
  32.          Playing and scoring in a single player game is explained in
  33.          the "Scoring" section later in this manual.  The other game
  34.          modes are explained in their own chapters.

  36.          Select a Difficulty Mode

  38.          Wordtris has four difficulty modes.  The modes and their
  39.          differences are listed in the following table.  Move the
  40.          arrow over the difficulty area, press ENTER, and select
  41.          novice for you first Wordtris Game.

  43.          The extra time for positioning letter blocks in CHILDREN'S
  44.          mode allows our younger players a chance to play Wordtris.
  45.          CHILDREN'S mode is identical to NOVICE mode except for the
  46.          slower letter drop rates.

  64.          There are ten levels, and at the higher levels, the blocks
  65.          fall into the well at a faster rate and the game may require
  66.          more letters before it will accept a word.  Since this is
  67.          your first game, choose level A if its is not already
  68.          selected.

  70.          Select a Time Limit

  72.          Move the arrow over the TIME control and select a time limit
  73.          for your first game.  UNLIMITED lets you play until your well
  74.          fills to the top with letter blocks or until you decide to
  75.          end the game.  Choosing anything other than UNLIMITED lets
  76.          you play for that number of minutes.  The time appears on the
  77.          game screen directly beneath the well.  When the timer
  78.          reaches 00:00, the game ends regardless of that game's
  79.          current status.

  81.          Repeat Words

  83.          This option, when turned on, removes duplicate words from the
  84.          well.  Of course, you only earn a score the first time you
  85.          form the word.  If it is turned off, then repeated words are
  86.          not removed from the well, which is obviously much more
  87.          difficult.

  91.          If you select Competitive or Cooperative game, then the
  92.          CONTROL 2 option will also be available for the second
  93.          player.  Choose KEYBOARD, MOUSE, or JOYSTICK depending on
  94.          which device you are using the play Wordtris.

  96.          Start the Game

  98.          Wordtris starts on the level you selected, but the default
  99.          level is A.  There are 10 levels total, A through J, with
  100.          each level becoming harder.  The higher the level the faster
  101.          the blocks fall.  The scene on the right shows you the
  102.          minimum number of letters required to create a word on that
  103.          level and the last five words you have created in that game.
  104.          The bottom of the right-hand screen shows the last repeated
  105.          word and how many times the word has been repeated.

  107.          The lower portion of the well is filled with water.  Letter
  108.          blocks fall randomly from the top of the well and float on
  109.          the water.  If a block lands on top of a floating block, the
  110.          lower blocks is pushed beneath the water.  When the blocks
  111.          reach the bottom of the well, they begin stacking above the
  112.          water line unless you manage to form words, at which time toe
  113.          blocks forming the word(s) disappear from the well and you
  114.          earn a score.

  132.          Blank Blocks

  134.          In Single Player, Tournament, and Head-to-Head games, some
  135.          blocks that drop into the well are labelled with a question
  136.          mark.  These blocks are blank blocks to which you can assign
  137.          whichever letter you need by typing it on the keyboard.  You
  138.          can even turn the blank block into an eraser if you press the
  139.          Backspace key.  The resulting letter (or eraser), however is
  140.          worth zero points.  Also, if you do not press a letter fast
  141.          enough, the blank block will change to a random letter.

  143.          Erase Blocks

  145.          Another special block.  This blocks looks like a gum eraser
  146.          and wipes out the first letter that it drops on.

  150.          This allows you change various options and perform other
  151.          activities while the game is in progress.  Press ESC to show
  152.          the menu bar.

  190.          that fall into the well.  Abbreviated words, hyphenated
  191.          words, foreign words, and proper nouns are not accepted.
  192.          Each letter block is worth a certain number of points
